The Energy Management System according to ISO 50001

ISO 50001 | Energy Management SystemEnergy Management | ISO 5001ISO 50001 | Energy Management

The Energy Management System calls for the development of an energy policy that, starting from the identification of past and present energy consumption, defines the future improvement objectives that will be monitored through appropriate monitoring plans. From the comparison and analysis of consumption it is possible to obtain useful information to implement plans to improve energy efficiency, with a consequent reduction in energy costs.

The ISO 50001 (Energy Management System) standard is an appropriate tool that allows organizations to develop and implement policies and objectives that systematically take into consideration the issue of energy consumption.

Functionality of an Energy Management System

An effective certified Energy Management System allows:

  • have privileged access to the market;
  • improve the corporate image and the relationship with the stakeholders
  • meet the requirements that will be foreseen in the future by the implementation of the 2012/27 Directive on energy efficiency;
  • reduce energy costs through a systematic energy management. The decrease in consumption, especially during peak hours, allows obtaining contractual advantages towards energy suppliers, thus guaranteeing a secure supply;
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions by optimizing environmental performance in compliance with legal limits;
  • have a systematic approach to the continuous and permanent improvement of the energy efficiency of Organizations of all types or sizes;
  • easily integrate the new model with other management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001; OHSAS 18001, being the standard based on the PDCA Model (Plan-Do-Check-Act).
